2020/21 President's Welcome

Seaford LAC 99,

A Message from President: Emily McLellan

Dear SLAC Community,

Welcome to the 2021/22 season of Seaford Little Athletics.

Hello to our returning families and a warm welcome to our new members. I hope everyone has found ways to keep busy during the various lockdowns. Recently we have completed our Winter Cross Country Season. While there were a few disruptions which lead to the ultimate cancellation of the end of the season (including the cancellation of both Region Carnivals and State Cross Country Championships) we were able to complete or make up most of the scheduled weeks.

I would like to thank all our athletes, families, committee, and regular volunteers who have regular roles or have done duties. Your help is greatly appreciated, and your contribution has ensured the smooth running of our club throughout the past season. Also, a big thankyou also for everyone being adaptable and taking on our covid safe rules and guidelines.

While our last summer season began late, we quickly caught up. Starting in November we eased into a light quick program to allow us to move families in and out quickly to stick to covid safe rules and give us all a chance to adapt to the new norm. 2020 ended with children back in sport, something everyone was so happy to see. The personal bests were coming in and our committee decided it was the season to really celebrate pbs and promote these as a focus. It proved to be very popular with the athletes so we will continue these certificates this season.

In January, the first Little Athletics Victoria State Combined Event Championship was held at Lakeside Stadium and Seaford had 13 athletes represent us over the weekend, with many pbs and memories made.

On the 20th of February we had our Coles Community Round which showed our appreciation to Coles and extend our Coles partnership with a splash of red. We had a Banana relay which was lots of fun and the athletes enjoyed it all very much.

We had 19 athletes compete at the Southern Metro Region Track and Field Carnival, there was many pbs, fun, smiles, tears and cheering as well as 7 Gold, 4 Silver and 6 Bronze medals. A big congratulations to all our athletes and a big thankyou to their families for supporting us over the weekend. We worked together well to cover duties and work as a team with community spirit.

The Little Athletics Victoria State Track and Field Carnival was held on the 13th and 14th of March at Lakeside Stadium. We congratulate our state team and thank team managers Tracey and Rachelle for all their hard work and efforts for the weekend.

We also had several teams in the Under 9-Under 16 age groups represent the Club at the State Track & Field Relays on 27th and 28th of March at Casey Fields. The way the athletes all worked well as a team and supported their team members was a delight to watch.

Our member numbers for 2020-21 were up over 20% on the previous season which is great to see. Thankyou Leonie our Registrar and Rachelle our Secretary for making the process easy for new members and getting them all signed up quickly.

I look forward to guiding the club through what is an incredibly challenging time and look forward to the season that awaits as SLAC President for season 2021-22.

Stay Safe and Best Regards,

Emily McLellan -President,
